The 4th

This 4th of July we wanted to do something different. We were supposed to go camping but a week before we were supposed to go we got a call from the State Parks saying they had to cancel our reservation because there was too much snow on the roads to get to the campground. WHAT! Too much snow in July! Crazy! Our neighbors drove past where we were supposed to stay a couple of days later and yes, there was too much snow. So... we had to change our plans.
We loaded the kids up in the Jeep and headed to Colorado Springs. We've been there quite a few times and there's so much to do that we never get to it all.
This trip we decided we'd go to the Fine Arts Museum.
Ummmm..... it was SO boring! We must have picked the wrong time to go because the exhibits were not even remotely exciting. I mean... I could do art work better than they had.
The only thing that interested us was a statue outside.
When we went to UNM there was a statue that we called the Ugly Man Hands statue. Now, I'm not sure if it's still at UNM or if this is the same one. But it was there! The exact same statue.
Check out those ugly man hands on that women! And the face! Woof! Ha! Ha! It sure took us back to our college days.

Saturday afternoon we went to see Kung Fu Panda 2. I highly recommend it. For a cartoon it was very funny. The girls (and Joe) loved it. It poured the whole time we were in there so we made a good choice.
After swimming we took the girls swimming in the hotel pool. Swimming's always fun for the girls.
Sunday morning we went to Garden of the Gods. It was packed! We couldn't find any parking close to the coolest attractions. We eventually found a spot near some of the smaller attractions and went for a hike that ended up only being about 1 mile or so. Just enough for the girls though.

Our pathetic attempt at getting a family picture by ourselves.

We tried to drive up Pikes Peak but there was so many people that traffic was at a standstill and Joe wasn't about to take his standard up there. It would have been a pain to move a few feet at a time the entire way up. On our way home we stopped at the outlet mall in Castle Rock to get Kayla a new jacket. Then once we got home we crashed and watched a movie.
The next day we were lazy and went out for lunch. Then the girls played with their new Slip and Slide. Joe had to show them how to do it. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera ready when he did. He was fully dressed when he did it too!

We ended the day by going and getting Dairy Queen and watching the town fireworks from the library parking lot. There was no music so it was hard to keep the girls interested.
It was a nice relaxing weekend.
